We have two one-day itineraries (this one and another one starting at the Vatican), perfect for those visiting Rome from a cruise, stopping at the Port of Civitavecchia, with only a few hours available but wanting to experience the best that Rome has to offer. These itineraries are based on our experience (we did them in October 2014 and January 2016) and our knowledge of the city. They were designed entirely on foot.
There are various ways to reach Rome from the port, whether on your own by taxi or Uber, or by public train. Cruise companies sometimes offer excursions that solely provide transportation for passengers (whether by train or bus).
Taking into account these factors, please be mindful of:
- Return time (don’t be late, the ship won’t wait for you)
- Don’t go without a defined itinerary
- Pick-up location
- You can’t afford to wait in lines for too long, consider your available time.
