A esplêndida Fonte Triton, uma obra-prima de Gian Lorenzo Bernini, foi construída em 1642-1643 em nome do Papa Urbano VIII Barberini. Ele queria um “ornamento público para a cidade” e também um serviço de utilidade para colocar no centro da praça dominada pelo novo palácio pertencente à sua família.
A estátua colossal é representada com um tronco ereto, pernas escamosas e cabeça inclinada para trás para soprar na grande buccina (concha espiral) que ele sustenta nas mãos e da qual a água jorra e irriga toda a obra.
