EN// Day three of our Alaskan cruise aboard the Norwegian Sun took us to the charming town of Sitka. From the breathtaking arrival through the calm waters of Sitka Sound, to an exciting wildlife excursion, and a stroll through the town’s historic centre — this was an unforgettable day. The perfect balance between untouched nature and rich cultural heritage made this stop one of the highlights of our journey.

A chegada a Sitka a bordo do Norwegian Sun é verdadeiramente espetacular.

Enquanto o barco percorria a costa, fomos observando a majestosa vida selvagem.

EN// “Sea Otter & Wildlife Quest” was the excursion we decided to take. We left the Norwegian Sun and immediately boarded a small boat next to it that took us on a journey to discover the wildlife and marine life of Alaska.
As the boat sailed along the coast, we observed the majestic wildlife. We saw several bald eagles perched atop trees and a family of sea otters “wrapped” in kelp, floating in a relaxed manner. We also spotted impressive sea lions resting on a buoy, their robust figures contrasting with the tranquility of the sea.
We then arrived at an area known for the presence of whales. After some time scanning the horizon, an isolated humpback whale finally appeared, thrilling its onlookers with the first “tail” sighting of the trip. The sight of the enormous tail emerging and submerging in the Alaskan waters is unforgettable.
Before returning to the Norwegian Sun, the captain decided to go to another area where whales are also sometimes seen. What we found was indescribable: about a dozen gray whales, moving gracefully. It was difficult to choose where to look, such was the movement of these beautiful animals, accompanied by the rhythmic sound of their breathing and a festival of “tails” that drew applause and excited shouts every time a whale dived.
It was a unique experience, enriched by the opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures up close in their natural habitat, a true celebration of Alaska’s wildlife.
