Escaroupim é uma típica aldeia piscatória, formada em meados dos anos 30 por pescadores oriundos da Praia da Vieira (Marinha Grande). As habitações são feitas em madeira, pintadas de cores vivas e assentes em estacaria, de modo a estarem protegidas das frequentes cheias do rio. A peculiaridade das suas casas é extensiva aos seus barcos de pesca, também em madeira e pintados de cores vivas.
